What Are The Limits To Unlimited Hosting?
There have been a proliferation of advertisements hitting national media about web hosting. There are several companies that have been given millions to use on television, radio, and internet ads. These are promising at first glance. They reel you in with the notion of inexpensive options to start your own “custom” website. They even say that you can do it for free, and use their templates. They talk about how you’ll be found by search engines, and your business will grow into a successful entity, all without paying a dime. It sounds great, right? Well, when you start to work with these web hosting options, you will start to realize that you will end up with serious limits. The limits, however, are going to not only cripple your forward progress, they can turn into a nightmare. The following are just a sampling of the limits that are imposed by many of these companies online right now.
Limited Storage
The first thing that the free hosts will not tell you up front, is that there are limits to the storage space in your web hosting. You can only get away with a few megabytes. You could store a few images here and there, but if you want to have a lot of images, you will have to pay them a premium for additional space. This may not sound like a big deal, but when you sign up with a professional grade web hosting, even a lower tiered solution, they tend to give you unlimited storage space. That means you can back up zip files, and even rar files that contain software programs and more. You cannot do that with limited storage. You will be surprised how much more space your smartphone has in terms of storage, than these limited web hosting plans that are given away have.
Templates (Same Tired Designs)
There are several “top” tiered free hosts that are advertising a lot. They have templates, but they are not exciting. You’re going to find that the majority of them are simple, and by simple, we’re talking bare bones. Once you try to modify them, you are going to run into a lot of issues. They utilize generic, public domain images, and code that is just meeting the W3C standards. When you try to make changes with hard line HTML5 or anything like that, they block you. That means no adding CPC codes, or anything along those lines. You will not get TXT file access to get an HTML file to display properly. You also can’t modify their code, you have to use their “designer”, which is a built in program and feature they push on you.
No Affiliate Marketing Links
There are a lot of people that are touting affiliate marketing as a way to make a lot of money. Yes, you can make a great deal with this. But guess what? If you don’t sign up with “real” web hosting, you are going to get stuck. Most free sites will not allow you to post affiliate referral links. Furthermore, they will not even allow this if you pay them to use their services. That’s right, you cannot use their sites to promote any of the top affiliate programs. That puts you in a bind, especially if you are paying for the services. Imagine paying the upgrade fee to get access to HTML elements, and then get banned or suspended because you cannot use affiliate links. That happens more often than you think. When you avoid the mess of free and inexpensive options, you will find that web hosting gives you freedom.
Spamming You To No End
For free users of any of the “cheap” web hosting, get ready to get hit with emails nonstop. These companies make their money through email marketing. If you sign up for a free account, you will receive no less than 2 to 3 emails every other day. Sometimes you will get more than one a day. If you sign up near a holiday weekend, expect to get hit with nonstop messages about how you can upgrade for a discount. Some discounts are cheap, others aren’t, but you will not be able to stop these emails. If you choose to do so, your account could be suspended.
It’s important to understand that inexpensive web hosting can be marginal at best. Free hosting is the worst, though. Instead of going through “trial and error” here, focus on purchasing a real web hosting account from a trusted provider. You will be unleashed to do whatever you’d like with your page. It will pay off big time.
