Avoid Using Free WordPress Themes

There’s nothing wrong with getting a good WordPress theme. If you sign up for web hosting today, you may even have a lot of free WordPress themes that come with them. This is a good thing. You will find that when you have this content management system in place, you will start to see an easy element to work with. The problem, however, is that a lot of these aren’t as good as you’d hope. In fact, there are some major problems that you should consider before you download or use any WordPress themes that you find for free. Free themes sound tempting, and some are in fact great, but there’s a hidden world of free themes that you are going to want to know about. The following are just 3 problems that could arise when you are looking for your next great theme.

Outdated Code Structure

You’ve done it! You’ve found a great WordPress theme and it seems like it’s going to be the best thing to spruce up your page. You go ahead and download it, then activate it, only to see your page completely ruined visually. The problem with a lot of free WordPress themes is that they aren’t up to date with the latest version of the software. This is a critical error that is going to cause your installation to fail. You don’t want your code structure to fall too far behind the current standards. There’s no way to bring it up to code after the fact, unless you are good at writing programming language.

Many Free WordPress Themes Have No Support

If you are looking at WordPress themes and you have found something that looks good, and for free, it’s going to be too good to be true in some instances. Some instances of free themes, means that you will not get any support after the fact. Remember, if someone has put this up for free, chances are they aren’t going to help you install, troubleshoot, and work to protect your site. They have simply posted, and uploaded a set of files that will give your site a new look and feel. If anything goes wrong, you may not get a helping hand at all.

They Just Don’t Work

One of the major issues that you will find with free WordPress themes is that they don’t work. You may see the demo, it may work for someone else, but if you test it out on your installation, it won’t. This is hard to tell at first glance. But once you go ahead and try to upload it, it will not work and you’ll get stuck with a theme that is just not grand.

At the end of the day, you’re going to find that free themes can be hit or miss. That’s not to say that they are all bad, because they are not. You need to look into WordPress themes that have support, are up to date, or at the very least come with good reviews, and positive experiences. It’s that simple.
