When you type in web hosting through any search engines, you will get a lot of information on the subject. You will also see a lot of advertising. Some of that advertising is going to shine light on free web hosting plans. These entice millions of people, but over time, they realize that this is not all its cracked up to be. In fact, you’re going to find that there are some serious issues that will no doubt manifest if you were to invest in this solution. While it may be “free”, you will not get the same kind of push that many other web hosting accounts can provide. If you are on the fence and perhaps are thinking about getting a free plan, consider the following reasons you should definitely avoid them.
Limited Storage Space (HUGE Limits)
The first major thing you’ll find to be problematic is that you will have limited storage space. At press time, there are some major web hosting companies that offer free accounts and only 5 MB of storage. You did not read that wrong. They only offer 5 MB of storage, and to boot, they’ll only give you 500 MB of transfer. Now, you may not think that is a big deal, but if you are planning on establishing a successful website, you will blow through those limits within 10 to 15 days, if not sooner. These limits of course can be removed, if you pay set up fees, monthly fees, and more. By the time the dust settles, you will spend more on “free” hosting than you would if you just went with a paid web hosting company outright.
No Support Systems
When you look at the landscape of free web hosting, you are going to find that they do not offer world class tech support. In fact, you will not get much in terms of real support when you sign up for these options. The reason is simple, it’s free. Free options do not come with premium amenities, nor do they come with customer service that truly cares about what you’re doing, or how you’re doing it. Support comes from the world of paid web hosting plans. When you pay for something today, you will be given a lot more attention, especially via chat, email, and phone. If you’re not a paying customer, then you will not get support, and that’s something that you’ll need at one point or another.
No Custom HTML Access
One of the major things that you get with paid web hosting is customization. You can use a blank canvas to code, edit, and create any type of website that you want. When you decide to cut corners and use free web hosting, however, you will not get this luxury. Instead, you will have to use whatever design software that they have in place, and that usually means no custom HTML areas. That is of course unless you pay. You could pay for the privilege to open up custom areas, but you will not get a blank canvas, they’ll control what you get to do and edit.
Simply put, free web hosting is not going to pay off for any type of website. Don’t do it. Pay for a good hosting provider, and use their resources. The difference is truly, night and day.
