Summary:

InMotion is a great choice if you're looking for Business Hosting. They cater to everyone but we'd recommend InMotion if you have a business or e-commerce website. They offer a 99.9% uptime guarantee and 24/7 U.S based support and host your website on Enterprise Dell servers. They also offer VPS and Dedicated server options which means when your website grows you have scalability to a bigger platform.

InMotion Hosting has been hosting since 2001, and are known throughout the web hosting industry for their impeccable customer service. Thinking of hosting with them? Read this review first:

For over a decade now, InMotion has built up a reputation for being a go-to solution for SMB’s and for corporate use. Based in California (and Virginia), InMo currently offers about a dozen different plans and packages from business starter all the way to commercial grade. I mean, these guys have a plan fit for literally any sized business, and even offer managed hosting. What’s even more interesting is that this company isn’t owned by Endurance International Group (EIG), considering how many other hosts EIG has bought up over the last little while. What gives? But enough about that jazz, lets really get into what you need to know to make an informed decision about this host.

InMotion ReviewThe Mechanics

Barring the risk of confusion – which can easily happen when customers are inundated with so many choices – InMo really can help facilitate a viable hosting solution. As opposed to many other hosts in the same ballpark, InMo’s entry-level teaser plan (ELTP) isn’t much of a tease. They call it the Launch (Business Class Starter), it starts at $4.19/mo, and supports a maximum of 2 websites. Though they boast about only a few “unlimited’s” (in this case, it’s disk space, transfers, and emails), I don’t think we can call this an ELTP. It’s officially no longer an ELTP.  It’s just a plan. An ELP if you will.

This is where InMotion stands out in my opinion, for better or for worse, by not throwing the usual barrage of “UNLIMITED EVERYTHING” in our faces. Though, as I’m sure we all know by now, the “Unlimited Disk Space” and “Unlimited Monthly Transfer” are in actuality limited, and based on “normal” usage. If you become a heavy user, you will have to upgrade, or hit the road (as per their TOS, and is the case with pretty much every other hosting provider) Instead of more unlimited limits, they offer things like free basic backup service :

“It is critical for you to have backups. We provide, included with your account, a complete backup of your Shared environment. This will occur automatically unless otherwise requested. The backup environment is as secure as the main Shared Web Hosting environment and the data is transmitted over an SSL encrypted connection. The following limits apply to the backups included with your account: Restoring your account is FREE, but limited to once every 4 months. A fee of $49 will apply for any additional restores. Sites larger than 10GB will not be backed up automatically. Options are available, please contact our Sales Department for current prices.”

The Drawbacks

Every now and again, the other shoe decides to drop. You may have already noticed here at HRS we (okay, it’s me) prefer to mention the downsides to a host before getting into the positives and full functionality. This is in an effort to save you time. If you can’t deal with negatives, then the positives aren’t going to be much use to you, are they? In this case, while InMo (I’m starting to enjoy this nickname) aren’t short on offerings for business minded customers, their plans are more expensive and less feature-packed then their competitors. While their hosting solutions are ideal for almost any sized business, they are definitely not built for a website smaller than an SMB (so blogs, photo/video sharing, etc.). It’s also worth mentioning that InMo offers very limited capability with the number of domains per hosting account; Launch/Power/Pro offer 2/6/25 respectively.

The Core

As previously mentioned, InMotion offers a LOT of plans; between their Business Hosting, VPS Hosting, Dedicated Hosting, and Reseller Hosting, I counted 14 plans, plus their Managed Hosting solution. Here’s a quick run down of their Business and VPS offerings, which hopefully will make things easier for you (all rates are monthly, and USD):

Business

-Launch from $4.19/mo (24mo term) or $4.79/mo (12mo term)

-Power from $5.13/mo (24mo term) or $5.99/mo (12mo term)

-Pro from $13.99/mo (12mo term), $14.99/mo (6mo term), or $17.99/mo (monthly)

It should be noted that these rates fluctuate periodically, and there is currently a 40% off deal happening – for more info, click here Business Hosting

VPS

-VPS-1000 (40GB Raid10, 1GB Ram, 750GB data transfer) from $29.99/mo (12mo term), $34.99/mo (6mo term), or $39.99/mo (monthly term)

-VPS-2000 (80BG Raid10, 2BG Ram, 1500GB data transfer) from $49.99/mo (12mo term), $59.99/mo (6mo term), or $69.99/mo (monthly term)

-VPS-3000 (160GB Raid10, 3BG Ram, 2500GB data transfer) from $74.99/mo (12mo term), $79.99/mo (6mo term), or $89.99/mo (monthly term)

As is the case with the Business hosting, there is a current special InMotion is having for VPS plans, in which case the aforementioned rates are only valid for the first 12 months. Find out more here VPS Hosting.

There’s a glimpse into the more popular plans InMo has to offer, and I’ll reiterate that rates and discounts change periodically so don’t be alarmed if they aren’t what you expected.

Why host with InMotion?

A plethora of solutions available for any sized business that’s a little more expensive than some hosts, but lets be honest: you get what you pay for. Furthermore, you can almost always find  a promotion (like, for instance, coming here so you can ensure to get the lowest possible rates).

Scalability; with InMo, you can upgrade to a VPS or Dedicated server very easily and without hassle.

90 Day Full Money Back Guarantee – sure it’s not an “anytime” guarantee, but it’s still one of the longest trial periods available on the market, that offers FULL money back. That says something about their confidence, doesn’t it?

Frankly, despite some shortcomings that become evident in the context of inexpensive hosting competitors, InMotion really does make a strong effort for Business hosting (which is their Shared Hosting), and though all of their advertised rates are one-time promotions, the renewal rates are definitely justifiable (last time I checked for Launch/Power/Pro the rates were $6.95/$8.95/$14.95 per mo. respectively).

I switched to inmotion from JustHost and have had a horrible experience! Downtime, server problems and poor support. These people don't know what they are doing. I'm here looking for a new web host because inmotion suspended my website and won't even give me my backups! Stay away from inmotion at all costs.

I don't tend to write reviews but iPage did just save my ass. Their backup service (which I paid for) literally worked perfectly. I delete my database (I know, I know) and they got me back online within 45min and everything is online now 🙂 iPage support rocks my socks.
